My Life ... the past few months!

Hi All,

Yes, it has been quite a long while since I last blogged. Let's just say life has been a little... insane the past year! I'll update the most efficient way I know how just so I don't write for hours on end...

School, school, oh and more school...
Obviously, I am a big fan of school, otherwise, I wouldn't choose to be in a school for the rest of my life as a teacher! I have to be honest, however. I am looking forward to the day where I don't have to fret over papers in grad school after spending an entire day with youngsters. I have loaded up on graduate classes at Lindenwood. My initial plan was to take it easy with grad school and finish in a few years. Of course, that isn't the case anymore! I've decided to load up and finish my master's in the Spring 2013 semester. Just two more semesters to get through, and I will have my MA in Educational Technology! I will be done with school... until my doctorate classes! (...which will be years and years and years away.)

Math, math, math and math...
Last year was my "Student Teaching Year", where I student taught a kindergarten class in Kansas City area in the fall, then moved home to St. Louis and completed my year in a fifth grade classroom in the spring. When I moved home, my number one priority was my job search. It was a difficult spring and summer in the job market. There were plenty of times where I needed to remind myself that I wasn't the only one going through this tiring search and to keep a smile on my face. I tried to make myself more desireable as a teacher and became certified in Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle Mathematics. As it turned out, my hard work paid off and I landed a job in my ideal district doing the ideal job! I am a Math Interventionist at Valley Park Elementary School. Valley Park is a great, diverse, small district in St. Louis County. On the VP campus, there is one elementary school, middle, and high school. After visiting once, I knew I wanted to work there. I feel so fortunate to be a VP Hawk!

And in my spare time...
I tried to keep up with my new hobby of cycling. My dad and I trained all summer for the Lupus Wolfride, which took place at the beginning of August. We chose the shorter, 56-mile route. After training all summer, we completed the course in 4.5 hours (in the rain) and raised over $1,000 in Lupus research, which is very close to my heart because my mother was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease 15 years ago.

Welp, that's my life in a nutshell for the time being. I'm extremely busy, but let's face it -- I love every second of it!

Until next time!
